Autumn Term

TOPIC INFORMATION - AUTUMN TERM

Year 1

Welcome to Class 1 2017-2018! We are so excited to tell you all about the wonderful things we will be taking part in this term.

Writing

As part of our topic 'The World Around Us' we decided to explore the Wildlife Area. We listened closely to all the different sounds and felt the environment around us. We created our own piece of descriptive writing and came up with lovely adjectives such as rusty leaves, bumpy acorns and that it made us feel brave.

We're going on a leaf hunt

We explored the areas around school in search of the different varieties of leaves after reading 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen.  We were really excited and found thousands of leaves that then helped us write our own version of the poem, we also discussed deciduous and evergreen trees and talked about why they lose their leaves in autumn.

Maths

In keeping with 'The World Around Us' topic we have explored the local environment looking for different 2D shapes. We enjoyed spotting them in peoples houses, on street signs and on the road as we walked around the village.

Creativity

We have been experimenting with paint and have created our own aerial map of the UK with an artistic twist, using sponges and paint. Take a look at our beautiful masterpieces below.

Let's get physical

We have been lucky enough this term to work with Mr Butterworth on our healthy living skills. He has taught us about how to be a good friend and how much fruit and veg we should be eating each day. we have also learnt how much exercise we need and he has shown us lots of activities and games that have made us work hard to keep our hearts and bodies healthy.

A journey of the world around us

Class 1 enjoyed exploring the village around us. Mr Barclay kindly spent time with us looking at the church and discussing all its important features. He told us all about the history of the church and the stories of the stained glass windows. He also made us feel very important as he let us stand in the pulpit. After that we looked for the 2D shapes around the village and then went to the wildlife area to build mini beast hotels, we then took part in a nature scavenger hunt. We had a fantastic time.
