Autumn Term

TOPIC INFORMATION - AUTUMN TERM

Welcome to class 2

We have had a wonderful start to class 2, we have settled extremely well- it’s like we have always been in this class. We love our new classroom with all of its new and exciting areas. Our role play is set up as a Waterstones shop and we have practised buying books and even some Costa coffee!

In maths we have been working extremely hard to use what we learnt in class 1 and we have blown our teachers away, they are so impressed with our understanding of number place value and number bonds.

Our Topic this term is named ‘Wonderful World of Books’ and we have explored the remarkable work of Julia Donaldson, we absolutely adore her stories. We used the internet to learn all about her and her work. Did you know she has written over 26 popular children’s books and she has a huge pet fish called Fishy?

We cannot wait to read more and more of Julia’s books and discover new and exciting authors.

Polar Express Day!

On Wednesday the 13th of December Class 2 had a very exciting day organised by Santa Claus. The day started with a letter that had been hand delivered from the North Pole. Santa was so impressed with the work Class 2 had produced this term he decided to treat them to a round trip to The North Pole on-board the Polar Express!

Mrs. Claus, Santa, his elves and his reindeer worked into the early hours of Wednesday morning baking Polar Express shaped cookies, making Polar Express chocolate bars and wrapping Santa’s sleigh bells for the children. They even had to build and lay train tracks in the classroom so The Polar Express could come into the school! They were told the presents were extra special and were never to be opened. Instead, they should ring the box every Christmas to remind themselves of the magic of Christmas. Santa had hidden the 30 bags so we had to go on a bit of a treasure hunt to find them! It didn’t take Class 2 long to find them, after all they did contain chocolate!

They spent the day on the train drinking hot cocoa, eating cookies and chocolate. We saw The North Pole, Santa and his elves, the dark forest and even the Northern Lights. The children watched the film on the train before returning back to Hook. We all had such a magical day.
