Autumn Term

Welcome to Reception

We have settled in to school life very well. We are learning lots of new and interesting things and enjoy working in the classroom and outdoors.

Class R have been working really hard on their handwriting this term.  As pirate Pete has left us clues for each sound, we have been looking at how to form the letters too.  We have practised this with sand, glitter, foam, paint, felt pens, whiteboards, and now in books.  We have also been learning how to write our names.  We have strengthened our fingers in dough, pressing and stretching it to make our fingers really strong!

Pirate Pete asked us all to be investigators and do an important experiment for him.  He had a packet of jelly, but didn’t know whether he should use hot or cold water to make the jelly.  We tested out both hot and cold water and found out that Pirate Pete needed hot water to melt the jelly.  When we had made it the cold fridge set it for us, and we all enjoyed tasting the jelly to make sure it was right!

We went on our very first visit out of school  this term.  We went on a bus to Goole Library.  We loved the bus and were  all very excited to be all together travelling on it!  At the library we sang songs, listened to stories and hunted for clues around the library.

Class R have loved developing our new Outdoor Explorer Area.  We have a whole new part to our outdoor area and have painted mud pictures and explore for creatures.  We found Newts under our log stumps.  How excited we were!  We are going to develop our Dinosaur cove,  bug hotel, mud kitchen and fairy garden over the next few weeks.

We have used leaves for lots of activities as they have fallen from the trees over Autumn.  We have printed, painted, pastelled and drawn leaves and made Leaf bugs.

In maths we are working so hard to recognise our numbers and to count objects.  We use all sorts of equipment, even dominoes to make spotty dogs!

Christmas In Class R

We really enjoyed taking part in our first Christmas Production.

Mrs Jessop came in to school to help us make a Christmas Cake. We had great fun and invited our

parents/carers in to share the finished products. The log fire was burning on the projector and we sang Christmas songs.
