Modeshift STARS (Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools) is a national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.
The children and Mrs Watling have worked very hard in order for us to achieve our GOLD award. We have now held this for the last year and continue to work hard in order to achieve the same standards.
School Year 2018-2019
Our Travel Ambassadors (with the help of Mr Butterworth) have been writing to local businesses for support with their Fit Friday initiative.
As part of Big Pedal we held a fundraising 'Superhero Day', which the children were invited to come in to school dressed as a superhero.
We took part in Sustrans Big Pedal 2019, which is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge.
March In March
As part of our Sustainable Travel Initiatives, each class in turn marched around the village looking for clues along the way. We recorded the number of steps taken for each class and compared them in school.
During the Big Pedal event, we selected one bicycle or scooter for our Lucky Lock prize! All children who cycled or scooted to school had the chance to have a Lucky Lock attached to their biker or scooter at the end of the day, and if it was theirs, they won a prize! Here's our winners:-
Be Bright, Be Seen Assembly
Class 3 - Juice Bike
Reception Class Balance Bike Training
Class 4 Pedestrian Training
Class 2 Scooter Training
On Tuesday 16th January, Class 2 took part in the Council's Scooter Training. In addition to using scooters in the playground, the children designed their own.
Road Sign Design
Our children were asked by Hook Parish Council to design posters to encourage motorists to drive carefully through our village. These will be displayed at a later date.
The winning designs were created by Mary Smith and Ruby Marwood.
Well done to both girls.
