Spring Term

Wishing you all a happy new year from Class 1!

Our topic this term is called “Something a little bit different”, where we are going to, (you guessed it) look at all things different. Read on to find out about our plans.

Maths

In maths so far we have been looking at number bonds to 10. We have been learning songs to go with it, and we have used all sorts of resources to help us. We are getting much more confident at remembering them quickly. After solving number bond problems to make sure we master this skill, we will be looking at doubling and halving and addition and subtraction. As the Spring weather sets in, we will begin measuring rainfall. We will also be measuring the lengths of different plants (when we read the story of Jack and the beanstalk). Finally, we are excited to become shadow investigators….but we can only do this when we have some sunny weather, so keep your fingers crossed.

Science

This term we will continue working with Ms Mann, the Science co-ordinator, to enhance our investigative skills. However, Miss Farthing also has some exciting things planned for us. As we begin to study animals, including humans, she will be bringing into school her very own rabbits! We can’t wait to meet them, and learn how we need to look after them. We are also hoping our school trip to Pets at home will help us to learn about and understand all the different animals, including reptiles and fish, as well as mammals.

We will also be investigating ourselves, and looking not only at our bodies, but our past, and in history we will be making a timeline of ourselves.

Literacy

As always, we will continue practicing our spellings and handwriting and applying these to different writing techniques. We will be creating our own stories of the rabbits, we will also investigate different foods and

write different descriptions about them. We look forward to writing our own instructions, and our own poems and finally we can’t wait to write our own recipe. Aren’t we going to be busy?

We are also going to be studying The Creation Story and linking this to art work, Geography and writing as well as our religious understanding of the story.

Last, but not least, we have been working exceptionally hard in our P.E. Miss Farthing has made sure we have had a wide variety, even in a short space of time. So far we have worked on dance, our gymnastic skills, and taken part in a Year 1

bootcamp, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
