To start our new topic of ‘Opposites’ we have got some new areas in our classroom. One of these is our science lab role play area, which we already enjoying! We have started to do our own investigations and are learning about the different scientific equipment.
We have also got a new writing area which is based around the story ‘The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse’. This term we are looking at different styles of writing, focussing on our story writing skills. We have already started to develop our skills by writing a beginning, a middle and an end to a story that we made up independently. This area is to help us to think about other stories and use different notebooks and big paper to write them on.
On Friday we celebrated Miss Ablett’s graduation with her! She was unable to go so we had our own version in Class Three. We made our own graduation caps and wrote one thing that made us proud on the top of them. We also made certificates for each other. We drew a name out of a hat and wrote a certificate for that person, telling them something that made us proud about them! It was such a lovely afternoon and it was great to see so much positivity within the classroom. Class Three insisted on having a photo of themselves throwing their hats up in the air like proper graduates!
In Maths we have been looking at time. We are getting really good at telling different times! To help us remember we did some singing and dancing, using our arms as the hands of a clock!
We have had great fun investigating with magnets in Class Three. We looked at different magnets and tested them out in different environments such as sand and water. We also managed to make a paper clip move without touching it which was very exciting. We can’t wait to look more at magnets.
As we are looking at colour within our topic opposites we have been creating our own colour wheels, looking at complementary and contrasting colours. To help us think carefully and take our time with our colouring we listened to some calming music. It was really lovely and created a very relaxed atmosphere within Class Three.
Our latest addition to Class Three is our Cat in the Hat reading area! It is amazing! We can’t wait to get inside and read lots of books. Even Miss Ablett has had a sit inside it.
As part of our topic work this term entitled ‘Opposites’ the children to took part in a historical walk in to Goole. On their route the children looked at the different types of buildings and points of interest, stopping to sketch along the way! We also be visited The Lowther Hotel down Aire Street where we looked at the history of the building and discovered its importance in Goole’s history. The highlight was ‘Afternoon Tea’ at the Hotel Yum yum!!!!
MEET OUR NEW FRIENDS
We are so excited about having 2 new friends our class! Please meet Minty and Murray, the Roborovski hamsters. We love them so much already and they have settled in really well to our classroom. We do not see them very much as they like sleeping but Miss Ablett gets them out for us most days so that we can watch them play together. They are so funny and very entertaining.
WORLD BOOK DAY
On Friday 3rd March we had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! We had our usual Friday assembly with the whole school which meant everyone got to see each other’s fabulous costumes. We then did lots of different activities including book reviews, designing our own book cover and also reading our favourite book that we had brought in. We spent all day in character and ate some Cat in the Hat treats with Miss Ablett, they were lovely! In the afternoon we shared our books with Class 4 and did even more reading. It was a super day and everyone looked fantastic!
In Maths we have started to look at multiplication problems. We found them hard to start with but now we have learnt techniques of how to solve them we are doing really well! Some of us finish all the problems given to us and then ask for more.
We are reading Matilda at the moment. When we got to the Bruce Bogtrotter chapter Miss Ablett brought us in some chocolate cake to eat whilst she read. This really made us feel like we were part of the story. It was yummy and super chocolatey, just like Bruce’s cake!
Class Three had a very busy last few weeks of Spring Term! They took part in so many exciting things.
We took part in a Science workshop with some visitors from Croda. We got to do lots of different experiments. We even looked through a proper microscope at a bee’s leg! Class Three are super scientists and really enjoyed the visit.
We really enjoyed taking part in the Viking Play and we really got into character, we even answered the register in our best Viking voices! Miss Ablett was really proud of Class Three and how they learnt all the songs and their own routines too.
The Last Supper
We also worked with Mr Barclay to put together a play to rein act the Last Supper. We had quite a few lines to learn and even a new song. Miss Ablett was SO proud of us! The final play was fantastic and the lead roles were amazing.
What a fantastic term we had, now here’s to the summer term!
