At Hook Primary School, we want every child to flourish. We nurture the whole child, helping them grow in confidence and character so that they recognise their unique gifts and the special contribution they can make to their community and the wider world.

Rooted in our Christian faith, we seek to ensure every child is known, valued and supported to become the person God created them to be.

At Hook Primary School, we invest time in understanding every child as an individual. Through strong pastoral support, nurturing relationships and a commitment to inclusion, we ensure that every child feels a sense of belonging and is given the opportunity to flourish.

We celebrate success across all aspects of school life, recognising achievement not only in learning, but also in creativity, sport, teamwork, kindness, perseverance and personal growth. We are committed to establishing firm foundations in learning, behaviour, communication and relationships so that every child can flourish.

We believe childhood should be joyful. Through our OPAL playtimes, children are encouraged to play, collaborate, problem-solve and build positive relationships. We recognise the important role that play has in children’s development and wellbeing.

As a Church school, we are guided by a Christ who called children to come to him when others placed barriers in their way (Mark 10:13-16). We seek to follow this example by ensuring every child is welcomed, valued and supported to flourish. We do this in the way that is right for each child and are not afraid to adapt our approach when needed.

We want every Hook child to leave our school with confidence, respect for others and a strong sense of purpose.

We place great importance on children’s wellbeing, recognising that happy, secure children are best placed to learn and thrive. Through our curriculum, worship and daily interactions, we help children develop resilience, responsibility and compassion. We encourage them to take pride not only in their achievements, but also in their character, choices and the way they contribute to the lives of others.

Respect, kindness and integrity underpin school life. These values shape our relationships and help create a community where everyone feels valued and able to succeed.

This reflects our belief that education is about developing the whole person.

Mindful of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), we seek to nurture qualities such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control, providing children with a strong moral and spiritual foundation upon which to build their lives.

We celebrate the unique nature of our school, our community and every child within it.

Planted in the village of Hook beside the river, and surrounded by open fields and St Mary’s Church, we make the most of our distinctive setting. We encourage children to be curious, creative and reflective, fostering a sense of wonder about the world around them. Through rich learning experiences, children are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas and explore new possibilities.

As a worshipping parish community, we work closely with St Mary’s Church and value the opportunities this provides for worship, reflection and community engagement. We are also proud of our strong links with Hook, Goole and the surrounding area, helping children develop a sense of belonging and responsibility towards their community.

We want every child to recognise that they are unique, valued and capable of making a positive difference to others.

Like the tree described in Psalm 1, we seek to provide deep roots of faith, belonging and character from which children can grow and flourish:

Mindful of Jesus’ teaching that “a person is born physically of human parents, but is born spiritually of the Spirit” (John 3:6), we encourage children to be spiritually aware and reflective, appreciating both the world around them and their place within it.
