Thanks to Mr Butterworth we had the opportunity to hold the event in school and therefore more children were able to take part. We have some budding athletes and hope our times allow some of our children to progress to the next stage once all the local schools have completed their own events. After the boys lead the way last week at Goole Academy, it was the girls turn to show us what they're made of!

Their first game was against Kingsway, and Elizabeth calmly put the girls 1-0 up in the first 30 seconds! From there, it was smooth sailing to a 4-0 victory with another goal from Elizabeth and 2 from Aleesha.

Up next was Marshlands, who put up a bit of a fight! Elizabeth came up trumps again with another fantastic goal, to which Marshlands immediately responded with an equaliser. It was a bit of a battle for both defences to the final whistle but the girls did excellently to hold on to the point.

Airmyn were up next, and the girls were excited for this one as there were a few rivalries in the opposition! However, 2 early goals from the prolific Elizabeth allowed us to sit back a little and sail to a comfortable 2-0 win. Confidence was riding high!

Our penultimate group match was against Boothferry, the favourites coming into the tournament. This challenge only spurred the girls on, as a wonderful whole team effort allowed them to cruise to an easy 5-0 win with 2 goals from Elizabeth and a hat-trick for Aleesha – these two girls were starting to be feared by the opposition!

Knowing we were in a good position, the girls just had to put in a good performance in their final group match against Parkside to be in with a good chance of making the final. Parkside put up a huge fight and even with Elizabeth and Aleesha constantly threatening their goal it seemed there was no way through. However, Elizabeth wouldn’t take no for an answer and in the final minute of the game she broke free and scored a fantastic solo goal sending us to the final!

The final was against Boothferry, the team we had already beaten 5-0 which gave the girls the belief and motivation they could win the whole event (as if they needed any!). A special mention must go to Nikita and Grace who, in a very sportsmanship fashion gave up their positions in the team to allow our two star strikers – Elizabeth and Aleesha - to take centre stage. The girls were fired and pumped for this match and Elizabeth quickly put Hook into the lead. A few minutes later, a fantastic run from Aleesha down the wing and a pinpoint accurate pass into Elizabeth allowed us to go 2-0 up and put one hand on the trophy. Aleesha wasn’t done there though, she wanted one more goal and worked her socks off into the dying seconds of the match, running through 4 defenders before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net to take 1st place!

A truly outstanding performance from the whole team. Well done, we're very proud of you, girls!
